the invitations of autumn.
as autumn rolls in,
it invites us to notice
its particular wisdom.
its unique invitations.
its own way of teaching.
it is a time for harvesting,
calling us to recognize
where our efforts have borne fruit.
it asks us to honor
what we have cultivated,
what we have spent time
tending to,
nudging us toward gratitude
for the persistence,
patience,
and care
offered by ourselves
and by others.
an invitation to notice
what has grown
because we stayed with it.
the turning leaves reveal
the hidden layers of their makeup.
displaying shades once concealed.
making room for a different kind of beauty.
one found in shifting patterns
of color, texture, and form.
they remind us of our own layered depth.
the beautiful complexity
of being human.
never singular.
always more than one thing.
we watch this unfolding around us
and admire it easily.
yet how much harder it can be
to extend that same appreciation inward,
to honor the changing layers
we carry within ourselves
and recognize them in each other.
autumn encourages us
to hold ourselves
with that same accepting grace.
in time,
the leaves loosen their hold,
drifting slowly toward the earth,
ever so gently
making their way to the ground.
they seem to whisper,
release.
let go of what no longer serves
this season of becoming.
the unhelpful mindsets.
the unhealthy behaviors.
the outdated beliefs.
the relationships that no longer nourish.
shed what holds you back.
shed what has run its course.
and in doing so,
clear a space
for what you wish to carry forward.
the seeds,
habits,
and intentions
you want to burrow into the soil
and tend through the frost.
let the rest fall away.
the shortening days reveal
the dance of light and dark.
asking us to recognize
and appreciate
how the existence of each
gives meaning to the other.
the fading daylight encourages us
to be gentle with the darkness
that moves through us.
to relate more kindly
to the shadows
that rise to the surface
within us
throughout this time of year.
because what occurs around us
is often mirrored
and reflected within.
colder nights draw us indoors,
prompting gentle retreats.
the season asks us to slow down.
to choose being over striving.
to tend to ourselves
when the warmth of the sun is brief
and harder to find.
and in the stillness,
we are called to ask,
what other forms of warmth
can we create?
what might comfort
look like in this hour?
how do we offer that same warmth
and comfort to ourselves,
and share it with another?
above all else,
fall does not rush its letting go.
it lingers in its richness,
unhurried and whole.
so sit awhile
in this golden hour
and listen closely
for what it holds for you.
for what is yours alone
to find.
stay curious about what the season
might bring you.
open yourself to its subtle teaching.
its unspoken guidance.
heard in the whisper of the wind.
felt in the crunch of leaves underfoot.
whatever shift it prompts within you,
trust it.
trust that what is coming into view
is calling for your attention.
trust that what is asking to be released
may no longer serve.
trust the possibilities
in what is beginning
to take root.
wherever you are,
let the season meet you there
and offer whatever lessons
are meant for you.
